Associated Press - November 2, 2009 11:24 AM ET

FORT HALL, Idaho (AP) - Fort Hall Business Council Chairman Alonzo Coby is heading to Washington, D.C., to take part in the White House Tribal Nations Conference.

Representatives from each of the 564 federally recognized tribes are expected to attend the event. Coby says the tribal leaders will make sure the Obama administration hears the common issues, the Idaho State Journal reported.

Obama committed during his election campaign to meet regularly with tribal leaders and he is expected to participate in an interactive discussion during the conference. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and other administration officials are expected to attend.
