How does a 2012 Senate race featuring Denny Rehberg versus Jon Tester sound?

The website Politico.com reports Rehberg visited the National Republican Senatorial Committee's Capitol Hill headquarters Thursday, and both sides have an interest in such a race.

The Montana Democratic Party immediately jumped on the report, stating "if getting to the Senate is such a priority for Rehberg," he should step down from his House seat.

Rehberg spokesman Jed Link in Washington DC said Rehberg got a breakfast invitation from Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas, and when the 2012 Senate race ramps up, Rehberg said he's not interested in doing what's 'best' for his political future, but what's best for Montana.

When pressed if Rehberg is running for the 2012 Senate seat, Link responded, "He's running for the 2010 House seat."
