A hunter seeking a black bear, instead shot and killed a grizzly last Saturday near Placid Lake.

When he realized the mistake, he notified Fish, Wildlife & Parks wardens who wrote a citation.

The violation carries restitution of $2,000 and a fine up to $2,000. A judge will determine his punishment.
