HELENA - Two inmates at the Lewis & Clark County Detention Center attempted suicide simultaneously on Monday morning.
The call came in from the jail at around 8:30 a.m. reporting that two inmates were involved.
Emergency personnel responded and both inmates were taken separately to St. Peter's Hospital.
One of the inmates was said to be in critical condition at the time.
Lewis & Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton says both inmates are still alive and were found by detention officers in the nick of time.
He added that he's called in the Montana DCI to investigate the incidents.
Few other details have been released at this point, including whether or not the two inmates were housed in the same pod.
Sheriff Dutton says this is the first time they have had double suicide attempts in the county jail.
