BILLINGS - The Billings Police Department conducted a traffic safety checkpoint on Tuesday.
More than 2,000 cars passed through the checkpoint, which was set up in the eastbound lane of Central Avenue between 29th and 30th Streets West.
Nearly 350 vehicles were pulled over at the checkpoint, as ten officers checked drivers for proof of registration and insurance, seat belts, outstanding warrants, and signs of drug or alcohol use behind the wheel.
Within those vehicles, 127 drivers received warnings and 97 motorists were cited.

In addition to the citations, three arrests were made, six warrants were served, and one illegal alien was detained.

Sgt. Jason Gartner said the department tries to conduct at least two random safety checks each year; one in the spring and one during the fall.
