Four hurt in Helena collision

HELENA - A three-vehicle accident on North Montana Avenue on Wednesday afternoon sent four people to the hospital, and at least one victim appears to be in critical condition.

The accident happened around 5:15 p.m. when the driver of a passenger car tried to turn into a private driveway at the KOA Campground and crashed into a southbound pickup truck.

Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Jay Nelson says that caused the truck to spin counterclockwise into the center lane, colliding with a third vehicle head-on.

The driver of the southbound pickup truck had to be extricated from the vehicle while a passenger in that pickup truck, and the drivers of the other pickup truck and the car, were all taken to St. Peter's Hospital and according to Nelson appeared to be in stable condition.

It took an hour before the vehicles were cleared from the roadway and traffic was opened back up, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
