CLINTON- An 8-year-old boy and a suspected drunken driver are dead after a crash deputies described as "horrific."

The wreck happened around 4:30 a.m.on Sunday with Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Andrew Novak saying a 33-year-old Lolo man was driving the wrong way on the freeway when he crashed into a red Honda carrying a family of four from the Seattle area.

That impact killed an 8-year-old boy riding in the Honda and seriously injured the 37-year-old driver, who was flown to a Seattle hospital. Meanwhile, a 29-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy, also in the Honda, were hospitalized in stable condition.

We're told the family was on their way to Yellowstone National Park for vacation and Novak says indicators show the wrong-way driver had been drinking.

He was driving an unlicensed Chevy truck from the Testicle Festival at Rock Creek Lodge and when he collided with the Honda, he was ejected from his pickup and pronounced dead at the scene.

The Washington family had a dog with them that is still missing. She is black lab mix with pointed ears, a red bandana or handkerchief and her name is Bella.
