HELENA- An alliance formed to protect drug-endangered children in Montana is still trying to figure out just how many children are at risk.

A training session in Helena on Tuesday brought together law enforcement, child protection workers, prosecutors, and medical personnel to develop better strategies to help at-risk children.

More than 1,700 children have been taken in in 2012; more than 930 of those were due to drug-related incidents in their own homes.

Alcohol, marijuana, meth, and prescription drugs in the home tops the list of reasons why children are removed.

The DEC Alliance is coordinated through the Montana Department of Justice and is working to find out how many more kids need help.
