MISSOULA- A Kalispell man who rear-ended a SUV near the Missoula International Airport on Thursday night is an Alzheimer's patient who was reported missing earlier in the day.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Rob Strauch says the man stole his wife's car keys, left Kalispell and was missing most of the day. Then at around 9:30 in the evening, he rear-ended a car near the intersection of Highway 10 West and Airway Boulevard. The crash blocked the highway for about 20 minutes.
Strauch said the Kalispell man who was driving the SUV was reportedly seen swerving before he rear-ended a Missoula man who was stopped at the Airway Boulevard stop light. MHP believes the SUV was traveling between 30 mph and 45 mph when it hit the car. The collision pushed both cars into the intersection and both drivers were taken to the hospital.
Strauch says alcohol was not a factor in this crash and both men are expected to be ok.
