WHITEFISH - Authorities have cancelled the Amber Alert that was issued Thursday for a young Canadian boy who was taken by his father.

The pair have reportedly been found in Whitefish, and Alvin Barnett, 3, is safe. The boy's father, Robert Barnett, was reportedly taken into custody by the Flathead County Sheriff's Office.

The CBC is reporting that on Friday morning officials in Montana said the boy's father was spotted by a civilian on a side street in Whitefish, and police moved in and arrested him.

They confirmed the boy was safe, and his father is now in custody at the Flathead detention centre in Montana, the Canadian broadcaster reported.

Jennifer Viets, Montana's Amber Alert co-ordinator, told the CBC that the father's vehicle crossed the Montana border near Eureka at around 3 p.m. on Thursday.

We'll have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
