VICTOR- The Victor boys accomplished something they had never done before on the basketball court last weekend. The Pirates brought home a divisional championship with a dominating performance over a highly ranked squad from Ennis.
Leading the way, just like he has for the last several years, was our Athlete of the Week Kyle Ball. The senior guard totaled 23 points in the title victory. So far, Ball has scored at least 18 in all six Victor postseason games. He even reached the 30-point mark twice. The four year starter has always had the talent. But one big addition to his game is making a big difference now.
"Definitely my confidence," said Ball. "My freshman year I was a little shaky, and didn't really look to take shots and stuff. Now if I'm open coach wants me to shoot the ball. So I shoot the ball. Also distributing to my teammates. Also getting them in the flow of the game."
"As great of player as he is, he's probably one of the most unselfish people you'd ever know," said head coach Drew Lewis. "I have to get on him in the games to take shots at times. I mean, he wants everybody to be involved. He wants to be a team player. Like at times he forgets he can make a shot at will, you know."
"Ever since our four seniors were in 8th grade all we've been wanting to say is, we're going to make it to state. We're going to make it to state," said Ball. "After that final buzzer, we made it to state. And that's our big goal. So I mean, that was everything to us."
Ball and the Pirates will head to Bozeman for state next week to tip off against Westby/Grenora in the first round. Class C and A girls state tournaments begin this Thursday. We'll have all your coverage on MTN Sports.
