MISSOULA- The Rocky Mountain Football League is down to its Final Four and the Missoula Phoenix hope to stay alive for a chance to be champions. And with the ink still drying on the newly-written record books, our Athlete of the Week will lead the way.
None of Shane Jurasek's 12 seasons in the Rocky Mountain Football League have presented a better welcome for his first championship. This year he set the RMFL single season passing records for yards and touchdowns.
"He's just a natural raw talent. The man doesn't have as much experience as I do. And he's still out here setting records. Never played college football. That's the biggest shock," teammate Ja-Ton Simpson commented.
"You definitely need O-linemen that want to give you their heart and soul. You need receivers you can get the ball out to. I hold a vast amount of records, but I would trade every single one of them for a championship. I just want that championship so bad," Jurasek commented.
But it will take two more wins to get it. First up is Saturday's semifinal rematch with the undefeated Great Falls Gladiators. For Missoula, the game is for the Montana championship and redemption."
"Well they've won 20 in a row and two of those have actually been against me. They are a good team. We got down to the wire last time against them and we just let it slip through our fingers," Jurasek pointed out.
"We look at the game ahead of us which is Great Falls. This game means everything because it actually is the next game and for the Montana title," Simpson added.
Jurasek takes his record 2,452 yards and 25 touchdowns into the Great Northern AA Championship Game at CMR High School in Great Falls at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
