A woman is waiting on results from a rabies test after her husband says she was bitten by a small bat in their hotel room at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort.

The couple says the incident occurred around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Lifeguards administered first aid to the woman. The resort's general manager, Steve Luebeck, says the lifeguards did not believe the injury appeared serious.

"My wife seems fine today and the state health department will be following up. The hotel has been very helpful and we are confident everything will be fine," said the victim's husband Wednesday.

Luebeck said he's never even seen a bat around the area. "I have worked here for 20 years and this has never happened," he said.

Luebeck says the bat was very small, about half the size of his hand. It was contained in a jar and handed over to animal control.

The resort is taking care of the couple's accommodations.
