BILLINGS - When the two Senate District 25 candidates announced they were running in January, they believed that their's would involve the most money ever in a state legislative race.

The Montana's commissioner of political practices confirms the 2010 SD 25 race is the most expensive. Incumbent Senator Roy Brown has raised almost $83,000. His challenger, Representive Kendall Van Dyk, has raised more than $73,000. Those totals are as of June 27th and the next campaign finance reports are due on October 1st.

MSU-Billing professor Dr. Craig Wilson says the total for each could exceed $100,000. Both Brown and Van Dyk also say they could reach that number.

Wilson says this race has attracted funds because Brown was the Republican candidate for governor in 2008. And Wilson says Van Dyk is considered a "rising star" in the Democrat party.
