The latest issue of the Montana Business Quarterly reports the use of Biomass Energy is becoming very important to Montana's forest industry communities.

Economic experts say this is especially true after the closure of Smurfit-Stone Container Frenchtown's mill and the dismal economic conditions.

Author Todd Morgan says that logging slash and small trees are all potential sources of woody biomass turning locally grown wood waste into a clean source of energy.

In addition, he says that woody biomass can give Montanans the opportunity to capitalize on federally supported of green jobs and reduce wildfire threats.

There are already established woody biomass producers in Montana such as 10 bark or wood-pellet plants and 10 "Fuels for Schools" facilities.
