MISSOULA - "Don't walk under a ladder." "Keep a black cat out of your path."
These are superstitions many people live by, but at shelters across the U.S. and in Missoula, many black cats aren't being adopted because of the age-old myths.
On average, black cats stay several months longer at shelters than any other cats. That's why today is deemed as Black Cat Appreciation Day.
AniMeals Founder Karyn Moltzen says black cats do tend to stay around longer than their other felines, but they are just as loveable as the others.
"It's really too bad that people don't take the time to get past the sameness at first glance, because they have the personality, just like every other cat does," says Moltzen.
AniMeals staff say several cats were adopted today, but none of them were black cats.
