BUTTE - The Butte Silver Bow Detention Center staff rushed to aid an inmate after he tried to hang himself with a bed sheet.

A 20-year-old inmate attempted suicide by tying a bed sheet to the bathroom window railing and hang himself at around 2 a.m. on Friday.

A detention officer heard a scuffle when a fellow inmate was helping the man out of the situation.

Sheriff Ed Lester says the man was found breathing and coughing.

The inmate was taken to St. James Healthcare for treatment and released back into the custody of the detention center where he has been placed on suicide watch.
