MISSOULA- Over $10,000 has been awarded to two local charities with the Poverello Center and Missoula Food Bank each receiving over $5,200 from Carmike Cinema 12.
During the 2011 grand opening of the Big D Theater, Carmike made a commitment to each of the organizations by donating all ticket and concession money they received.
Carmike Cinema Manager Kurt Howard says their company understands the importance of working within the community.
"It's not about trying to get more attendance over other theaters, it's simply just giving back to the community that we are a part of," Howard said.
"Large scale donations like this one, they help keep food on our shelves. It's very tangible and it's a pretty direct benefit to people in our community so it's going to go a long way," the Missoula Food Bank's Jessica Allred added.
Poverello Center Executive Director Eran Fowler says this donation is huge for the charity, pointing out that the cost to feed their clients is about $10,000 a month, so this donation will cover more than two weeks of food.
The donation is especially helpful this month as both organizations are involved the Feinstein Challenge which is a nationwide campaign in which all donations are matched through the end of April.
