MISSOULA- Warm up the grill, grab your favorite jersey, and claim your favorite spot on the couch- football season is just around the corner. The NFL finished the first half of its preseason Monday night, and a larger than usual number of former Grizzlies are still battling for a spot to play on Sundays.
Marc Mariani used his old tricks against the Buccaneers on Friday. He took this kickoff nine yards deep in the endzone and almost brought it out to the 30-yard line. He's still in line to start at both return spots, and the third string wide receiver also made a pair of catches for 16 yards.
Also on Friday, Dan Carpenter made the most of his one field goal attempt against Carolina, drilling a 52-yard kick with room to spare. His Dolphins teammate Jimmy Wilson made a pair of tackles and right now is listed as a backup safety.
A couple former Grizzlies helped in the Rams win over Kansas City on Saturday. Chase Reynolds carried the ball four times for seven yards, and also got a turn on a punt return. Third round draft pick Trumaine Johnson made three, and Jabin Sambrano saw his first action in the league, hauling in one catch and serving as a kick and punt return specialist for the Colts.
Kroy Biermann had two tackles and Shann Schillinger wrapped up one ball carrier for the Falcons on Tuesday, and Kalispell native Brock Osweiler played the entire second half for the Broncos, completing five of 11 passes for 38 yards.
