EAST MISSOULA- A convenience store clerk at the Ole's gas station at 3705 Highway 200 in East Missoula was in surgery early Friday morning at St. Patrick Hospital after being shot by a robber.
Missoula County Sheriff's Deputy William Burt says that a man armed with a scoped rifle entered the store just before 3:00 a.m.
The robber demanded money and when the male clerk refused, he was shot. The suspect than fled the scene, while the victim crawled to the casino portion of the building and was helped by another employee.
The wounded clerk gave a good description of the robber to deputies, who are looking for a Hispanic male, between 5'4" and 5'8" tall who is heavy-set.
He was last seen wearing a mask during the robbery, with dark clothes, including a hoodie. It's not known if the suspect used a vehicle to get away, and he remains at-large.
The convenience store/gas station was closed after the shooting, with crime tape surrounding the complex and several deputies remaining on the scene.
There's no immediate word on the condition of the clerk. We will continue to bring you as information becomes available.
