HELENA - State officials have decided the comment period on the proposed plan for cleanup of the Missoula White Pine Sash State Superfund Facility in Missoula.
The Montana Department of Environmental Quality says the new comment period deadline is April 14, 2014.
DEQ officials say in a news release that because of significant local interest, additional time is being allowed for the public to submit comments on this proposal.
The public is encouraged to offer suggestions for improving the proposed cleanup measures, or to submit reasons to implement other alternatives for the project.
DEQ has identified the presence of substances at the facility that pose an unacceptable risk to human health and the environment.
The plan offers a detailed explanation of DEQ's preferred alternatives for addressing the cleanup of soil and groundwater at the facility.
This proposal and other information regarding the MWPS Facility can be found online at DEQ's website, at the Cogswell Building (located at 1401 E. Lockey Street Room C-108 in Helena), and at the University of Montana Mansfield Library. The proposed plan is also available at the Missoula Public Library.
The final plan for cleaning up the facility will be picked by DEQ after the Department considers each public comment submitted during the public comment period, which started March 1, 2014 and will now end April 13, 2014.
