HELENA - A vehicle accident at the Helena Regional Airport caused a security breach on Thursday.

A Helena man driving a small red pickup truck drove through the chain-link boundary fence near the airport just off Washington Street at around noon.

No one was injured in the accident and it's not yet known how fast the driver was going, or what caused the man to pull off the road so quickly.

"The driver decided to pull off to the side of the road and ended up sliding off the side of the road through the airport fence here. At this time there's not going to be any citations issued. We are going to forward the case on to the city prosecutor's office," Helena police officer Gerald LaChere said.

"About 60 feet of fence here was taken out from this accident and of course it's a security issue for the airport because the airport perimeter has to be secure at all times," explained Helena Airport Assistant Manager Jeff Wadekamper.

The bill for the emergency fence fix will be handed to the driver's insurance company. The accident is still under investigation, but because there were no citations given out.

The driver's name will not be released.
