PABLO- Almost 350 students from western Montana showed off their artistic talents and love of wildlife by taking part in a poster contest.
The inaugural "Safe Passage for Wildlife" art contest turned out some creative works that now on display at the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal office in Pablo.
The winners were announced Thursday afternoon with awards givens to the top three in five different categories.
CSKT Tribal wildlife biologist Whisper Camel-Means says the artists drew their inspiration after learning about wildlife monitoring and the crossing structures on U.S. Highway 93.
"We had a great response, we talked to kids from Polson all the way down to Missoula. We talked to about 900 kids and had about 350 poster entrants in our contest."
Second grade through high school students from Missoula and the Flathead Indian Reservation took part in the contest which was sponsored by the People's Way Partnership.
