MISSOULA- A cut fiber optic line is responsible for knocking out phone service from Stevensville to south of Darby in the Bitterroot Valley.
John Bemis with CenturyLink tells Montana's News Station that a contractor working in the Victor area cut a fiber optic cable, knocking out phone service.
The incident happened at around 8:30 a.m. on Monday and Bemis reports that land line and cellphone services are being affected.
Bemis says that repair crews are on the scene, but there's no word on when phone service will be restored in Ravalli County.
Meanwhile, the Missoula County 911 Center is helping handle Ravalli County 911 calls while the phones are out.
Residents can also call the Missoula center at (406) 258.3731 and a person manning that phone number.
