DECKER - Decker Coal Company has announced mass layoffs for the New Year.
The southeastern Montana company plans to cut as many as 75 mine employees from its workforce in mid-January.
Human Resources Director Donna Barker said the layoffs are part the mine's ongoing expense management activities.
Barker would not provide any details on specific positions that may be affected.
The decision to reduce the workforce in 2013 is a mutual decision by both owners of Decker KCP, Inc. and Western Minerals, LLC, according to Barker.
The Decker coal mine is situated in the northwestern section of the Powder River Basin within Big Horn County.
Decker Coal Company currently employs 160 people.
