MISSOULA - The defense attorney for a man who's accused of stabbing his estranged wife has asked the judge in the case for more time before setting the case for trial.

Prosecutors says Emmitt Hogsten wanted to reconnect with his estranged wife, but the two ended up arguing in his truck on Desmet Road, and that's when investigators say Hogsten stabbed his wife several times.

She was able to flee to a nearby business for help and Hogsten was arrested on the scene.

During a Tuesday morning Missoula court appearance, the defense asked for more time to research why Hogsten needs to provide a DNA swab.
