MISSOULA - Despite the smoky day, people gathered in Equestrian Park to get a little dirty.

Around 3,500 people showed up for the Missoula Dirty Dash, which organizers say is one of the best turn outs they've had for a first year race.

The course spanned three and half miles, with 11 obstacles and 6 different mudpits.

Dirty Dashes take place in 11 different cities in the west, including two in Montana - Missoula and Billings. Proceeds from the event go to the CASA foundation, which provides counselors to help foster children.
