HELENA- What does it mean to be American in the year of 2012? A Mississippi man is trying to figure that question out, by traveling 50 states in 50 weeks.
"I kinda made my personal dream job" Josh Hailey says, "by telling stories taking pictures and sharing it with the world."
Hailey is able to relay what he sees through is website photamerica.com and Montana is state #22 that he has visited as his expectation are high while in Big Sky country.
"I have been to some beautiful states and I don't do favorites but I was in Colorado which I find is a gorgeous, colorful, and beautiful state. But i was like man this is so beautiful and everyone I talked to was like just wait for Montana. I have been though three different state where people are just like just wait for Montana," Hailey explained.
Well his wait is over and on his 209th day he has seen what Helena has to offer but hopes see the rest of Montana all while calling his van home.
"This is Casablanca this is my White House on wheels. I got a map of the country's terrain then up front you can see I have a map of the country and I mark everywhere I get gas," Hailey said.
But surprisingly enough it is not a road map that leads Hailey to the story of America.
"I go mainly by what people tell me to do before any map, it is just kinda everyday someone is like you should take this scenic byway here and maybe there is a guy that knows this place, it is crazy you know so I just follow everyone's path," he told us.
When it is all said and done Hailey hopes to write a book and finish a documented film on his experience of America in 50 weeks.
