MISSOULA - Smack dab between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the county, and plenty of shoppers hit downtown Missoula for Small Business Saturday.
Many local stores celebrated with special deals and customers were eager to keep those hard-earned dollars in the community, taking part in the third year of the event.
Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express to help small businesses get in on the action during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year.
Missoulian Sharon Palmer says her Saturday shopping was much more enjoyable than it would have been on a hectic Black Friday.
"I went there and I just looked at the lines and went 'no, no, no.' I'd rather come down here. My family, my sisters, my mom, and I are down here supporting the downtown, supporting the businesses that we love so much and have been here forever," commented Palmer.
Over 100-million shoppers nationwide visited small businesses last year, and this year it's estimated the turnout will be even bigger.
