MISSOULA - The University of Montana hired its first head athletic trainer in 1935 and since then, only two men have held the position.
Naseby Rhinehart, who the athletic training center is now named for, and Dennis Murphy, who recently retired after 31 years, are now joined in the post by JC Weida.
UM recently promoted Weida to head athletic trainer, but he's not really a new face. Weida has worked as an associate trainer the last 17 years and he calls his new position a dream job.
"It's been a goal of mine for a very long time to be a head athletic trainer. To be the Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Montana was always a goal but sometimes a dream, because you think of it, you know this is my alma mater. To actually have it come to fruition is just amazing and it's exciting," he told us.
Weida will still serve as the trainer for his favorite sport, football. But now he will also oversee the care for Montana's roughly 300 student-athletes.
