KALISPELL - Construction has begun at Peterson Elementary School to create four all new classrooms, as well as for a special multipurpose room.
Kalispell voters approved the 10-year, $3.3 million bond last year to alleviate classroom overcrowding at the K-2 level in the schools.
The money is not only going towards Peterson, but will pay for eight new classrooms four in Peterson Elementary School and four in Edgerton Elementary School, as well as a new central kitchen.
Peterson Elementary School sent 100 students from surrounding neighborhoods to other schools due to overcrowding in 2011. But school staff say this new addition should help them meet their current needs.
