A limited amount of extra licenses for antelope, deer and elk will be available starting a week from Monday.
The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks says when the purchasing window opens Aug. 6, the licenses may sell out in minutes.
This year, fewer surplus licenses are available in eastern Montana after a harsh winter killed high numbers of deer and antelope two years ago.
In other areas of the state, numbers are still strong, said fish and wildlife spokesman Ron Aasheim.
"If you are looking for deer and for meat in the freezer, there is pretty good opportunity in some areas and there are significant numbers of antlerless whitetail available in some districts," Aasheim said. "We just need to reduce whitetail populations a little bit in some areas."
Licenses can be purchased online or over the counter at fish and wildlife offices.
