MISSOULA - Many of the folks in town for Sunday's Missoula Marathon have wasted no time picking up their race information packets.
Participants could grab their registration information, as well as their official Missoula Marathon T-shirts in preparation for the big weekend event, on Friday night at the Iron Horse.
The marathon continues to grow annually making early registration necessary as well as convenient. Organizers say they are simply grateful to have such a willing and active community.
"A lot of excited people and people that were never runners before, never walkers before, now they're getting active and getting in shape that's fun to see," race coordinator Anders Brooker said.
"The big thing for us is seeing the community of Missoula get behind this event. We know it's not always the most convenient thing for people to try and get around town we just really appreciate these people's patience and the support that the community brings," he added.
Nearly 400 participants showed up at the Iron Horse to register for the free jog through downtown. A three and five mile course were offered to the runners on Friday evening as a final preparation for the big race day, however tonight, it was all about having a good time.
"This way it's so much fun because you meet a bunch of people here tonight and then tomorrow at the Expo you'll run into them again with ‘hi, how are you?' and get to picking on each other. Then race day you're cheering for them when they come across the finish line and they're yelling and hooting and it just really makes it a lot more personal of an event. Plus you know going for a run with a bunch of people is kind of fun," Pat Cross observed.
KPAX will be providing live coverage of the Missoula Marathon, both on-air and online, beginning bright and early Sunday morning.
