House roof collapses in Target Range fire

MISSOULA -Fire crews are battling a pair of structure fires in the Target Range area at this hour.

Officials tell our reporter at the scene that it appears the fire started in a garage or shed of a smaller blue house and then spread to a nearby larger home located along Pleasant Avenue.

The blaze has burned through the roof of the larger home, causing it to collapse. That house was occupied when the fire broke out, but authorities say that the people inside the larger home were able to escape

Firefighters say it doesn't appear anyone was home in the house where the garage fire
started and add that nobody has been hurt in the blaze.

The fire was first reported just before 1 p.m. and numerous fire units were sent to the scene in an effort to prevent the flames from spreading to any other structures.

The plume of smoke billowing up from the fires could be across the city and firefighters from around the area have been called in to fight the blaze which is burning off of South Avenue.

Heavy traffic delays have been reported on South Avenue.
