MISSOULA- Cooler temperatures combined with recent rainfall prompted officials at the Missoula County Fire Protection Association (MCFPA) to move the fire danger to "low." Opening burning is allowed in Missoula County with a permit. Permits are available via the fire department, the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, or they US Forest Service office. Open burning is now allowed within the Missoula city limits.

The MCFPA determines the level of fire danger based on the kind of fuel on the landscape, the amount of rainfall, the direction of the wind, and the daily temperature and relative humidity.
