BILLINGS - A fire broke out Friday morning at a refinery in Laurel.
Vice President of Northern Pipelines and Terminals for CHS John Traeger tells MTN News that the refinery continues to operate - except for the diesel treating unit where the blaze broke out.
Mutual aid was called to the fire, but did not enter the refinery - and the flames were handled by the refinery's response team.
Traeger said there were no major injuries reported, but one person suffered a sprained ankle. The extent of the damages and cause of the fire were not immediately known.
Traeger said the safety of the community and employees is the refinery's number one priority.
The first call came in around 8 a.m. Friday morning, and the fire produced a large plume of black smoke.
Cenex Harvest States owns and operates the 55,000-barrel-per day refinery.
