HELENA- Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials have announced that fishing is not allowed from 2 p.m. until midnight on three rivers in the state.
Scientists measured water temperatures higher than rainbow and brown trout's preferred range of 55 to 77 degrees, and avoiding fishing at the hottest hours of the day will minimize stress on catch-and-release trout.
The time limits are on: The Sun River from Highway 287 Bridge to the mouth of Muddy Creek west of Great Falls, the Smith River from the confluence of the north and south forks to Eden Bridge east of Great Falls and the Dearborn River from Highway Bridge 431 to the confluence of the Missouri River north of Craig.
