MISSOULA- A Florence man is in jail after allegedly pointing a gun at a family during a road rage incident and then trying to bribe a deputy to let him go.

Rance August Hertz-Cimino, 26, is facing assault with a weapon and bribery charges. Authorities say a man called 911 Sunday reporting that someone pointed a gun at him and his family as they drove on U.S. Highway 93 South.

The victim described the suspect and his pickup, and a Missoula County Sheriff's Office deputy was able to track him down in Florence. The deputy pulled Hertz over and ordered him out of the truck at gunpoint. Investigators later found a revolver that was allegedly used in the road rage incident.

Prosecutors said Hertz offered to pay the deputy multiple times if he'd let him go, offering as much as $20,000.

Hertz is in Missoula County jail on $100,000 bail.
