MISSOULA- Health officials report that the first confirmed cases of the flu have started showing up in Missoula County.
The Missoula City-County Health Department reports that the strains being seen are influenza A, type H3 and influenza A, type 2009 H1. Both of the strains are included in this year's vaccine.
The national Centers for Disease Control is still reporting that flu activity is relatively low in the United States overall. The CDC is recommending a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against the flu according to a news release.
The Missoula City-County Health Department still has flu vaccine available for adults and children and residents can stop by and get vaccinated. For more information call (406) 258.4745.
Several other Montana counties have already logged their first flu cases including Lake County which logged their first report back in December.
