KALISPELL- A new needle that injects just under the skin, instead of deep into muscle tissue, made its debut at a free flu vaccination clinic in Kalispell.

The Intradermal Influenza Vaccination is given with the latest delivery style of needles, with a short needle that feels like a quick bee sting rather than going deep within the arm.

Flathead County Health Officer Joe Russel says the county has received 400 doses of prefilled syringes and offered free vaccinations at the Kalispell fairgrounds to combat flu season in the Flathead.

"Since we have the free flu vaccine we felt this was a good way to get out there, we've heard a lot of people today say you know, I shouldn't have probably waited this long to get my flu shot but I'm glad you're doing it, so we've heard a lot of positives about doing this."

No cases of the flu have been found in Flathead County yet, but last week a few were confirmed in Gallatin County.

If you missed the free clinic Thursday you can always get your flu shot at the Flathead City-County Health Department on First Avenue West in Kalispell.
