FRENCHTOWN - Fire officials think crews dismantling a former Smurfit-Stone building might have started a fire Monday from welding sparks.
The Frenchtown Rural Fire Department responded to a call around 6 p.m. about smoke billowing from one of the Smurfit-Stone plant structures.
Patty Dreiling, a volunteer with the Frenchtown Fire Department, said the fire might have started when crews were welding, and flared up later in the day.
No one was injured, and as of 7:30 p.m. Monday, smoke is visibly rising from the building but firefighters are unsure whether it's still an active fire.
