A Frenchtown woman fended off a black bear, who charged at her in the back yard of her home, with a zucchini.
The Missoula County Sheriff's Department says it happened Thursday morning, just after midnight on Sorrell Springs Road.
The woman opened her back door to let her three dogs out.
A short time later, two of the dogs started going crazy.
The victim opened the back door and saw a bear swiping at her Collie and batting him around
She kicked the bear and the bear then came after her.
The bear's head and his paw were inside the woman's house.
The bear swiped at her with his paw, tore through her pant leg on her thigh and scratched her.
The woman reached back, grabbed a zucchini and threw it at the bear.
The zucchini hit the bear on the head and the bear took off.
The woman is okay and her dog is at the vet, but it appears he will be fine.
Fish, Wildlife and Parks set up a bear trap in the area where the woman lives in hope of catching the bear.
The sheriff's office says there is an apple tree about 25 feet away from the woman's house and that's where the bear may have been when the dogs were let out.
The victim doesn't want to go on camera or to have her personal information released to the public.
