MISSOULA- Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks officials are searching for answers in the poaching of a deer over the weekend.
The deer was shot twice with a pistol on range 50 B at the Deer Creek Shooting Center sometime between Saturday evening and early Sunday morning.
Officials say someone shooting at the range discovered the white tail buck and called FWP Monday afternoon. Game wardens describe the incident as a "thrill kill."
"Where someone just goes out, shoots something, leaves it, they don't take anything off of it, and it just sits there and wastes or rots. It is something that, like I said it does happen. This isn't the first case we've seen this summer. It's probably more like the 5th or 6th case of this happening in the general area right around Missoula," FWP Game Warden Kyle Miller said.
FWP is looking for information on who shot the buck, and say several charges could be filed against the guilty party with fines ranging from $500 to $2,000.
Anyone with information is asked to call 1.800.TIP.MONT.
