MISSOULA - Montana's bracket is far from busted even after their loss to Davidson on Saturday, but their dreams of making the tournament may have taken a major hit.
The Griz were already without leading scorer Mathias Ward, but now speculation says Will Cherry may have broken his right foot again.
Now if that's the case, it's the same foot injury Cherry suffered before the beginning of the season and if indeed it is re-injured, that would put the senior guard out for the remainder of the season.
Nothing official has been released, nor is there any word on Mathias Ward's availability, but as it stands now, the Griz played valiantly without their two senior leaders and still remain on top of the Big Sky Conference standings.
Nothing has changed, with neither Montana or Weber playing in any conference games this week as the Wildcats remain just a game back. They'll face Sacramento State Thursday and Northern Arizona on Saturday.
Meanwhile there's just a single game on the Griz slate this week as UM takes on the Bobcats in Bozeman. It's a must win game of sorts for both as the Cats are struggling to earn a spot to make the Big Sky tournament, while the Griz have aspirations to host it.
The same aspirations hold true for the Lady Griz as the Montana women had the week off from competition and managed to maintain their half game lead over Northern Colorado after the Lady Bears dropped one at home to Southern Utah over the weekend.
The destiny of the Lady Griz remains in their own hands as they'll host Southern Utah Thursday before making the trip down I-90 to face the struggling Bobcats as Montana will look for revenge on Saturday, playing in the afternoon game that day at 3 p.m. while the men will tip-off at 7 p.m.
