MISSOULA, MT - The Montana Grizzlies need to find yet another new coordinator. Head football coach Robin Pflugrad confirmed Jonathan Smith is leaving Montana to become the quarterbacks coach at Boise State.
Pflugrad added the increased salary and the opportunity to coach the Broncos were just too good for Smith to pass up. The former Oregon State quarterback spent the past two seasons as Montana's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Now the Griz are left without an offensive or defensive coordinator after Mike Breske left for Washington State a week ago. Pflugrad said he's not sure when the Griz will replace the two coaches, because recruiting is the number one priority right now, but the head coach expects the Griz to play a similar style on both sides of the ball next season, no matter who steps in. Pflugrad also said he is not sure if he will fill the two coordinator positions from within or hire personnel currently working outside the program. And he said he's not sure if other coaches will also leave as this is the time of year many coaches nationwide look to upgrade their salary and resume.
