PORTLAND- The University of Montana women's tennis team wrapped up its final match of the weekend with a 5-2 win over Seattle University in Portland on Sunday. The Griz (5-2) completed a three-match road trip in Portland and came out with three victories.

Montana opened with a 4-3 win over the University of Portland Friday and followed it with a 7-0 sweep of Portland State Saturday before finishing with Seattle.

After a sweep in doubles the Griz saw singles victories at Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6. Leading the way was junior Heather Davidson at No. 1 winning easily over Alexandra Farrar 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Laurence Pelchat, at No. 2, made a strong comeback after dropping her first set, 4-6, by winning a close set two, 7-5, and a decisive third set 6-1.

Sophomore Ashley Mackey won at No. 4 6-4, 6-1. Mackey, who is 6-1 this spring playing in the three, four and five spots, went 3-0 on the weekend. Mackey's only loss this spring is to Andjela Kankaras of Washington State.

In the No. 6 match sophomore Maddy Murray, who also went 3-0 on the road this weekend winning all her matches in straight sets, defeated Sarah Lucas 6-4, 6-1.

"I really commend the way the players remained disciplined," said coach Steve Ascher. "They were focused, and made the adjustments necessary to come out with the victory."
