WHITEFISH- Medical providers learned about the latest cardiopulmonary services, devices and medicines at the first cardiopulmonary conference in the Flathead Valley held in Whitefish Friday.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in men and women in the U.S., and Rocky Mountain Heart and Lung Cardiologist Thomas Amidon spoke about heart disease and says the Flathead Valley is no stranger to the disease.
"We do have a lot of active folks here but physical activity is not the only risk factor for heart disease and we do see a lot of heart disease in the Flathead Valley."
Other factors like family history, smoking, and poor diet can lead to heart disease. Booths were set up from various services and healthcare agencies that displayed the latest technology related to heart health.
