KALISPELL - A business center reminds telling customers to lock their vehicles and hide valuables to avoid thefts, which police say mostly happen in retail parking lots.
This past spring, a Kalispell police officer decided it was time to crack down on car thefts, and asked Hutton Ranch Plaza to install 10 "lock it or lose it" signs.
The signs are posted around the Signature Theater and Sportsman parking lots and remind customers to lock up and hide valuables to avoid being a target, said Wade Rademacher, Kalispell Police Department administrative captain.
"The overall goal is that people will lock their vehicles, they will hide their valuables," Rademacher said. "It's rare that anybody will break into a vehicle if they don't see anything of value in sight or if the vehicles are locked."
Kalispell police encourage other businesses to post Lock it Or Lose It signs.
