MARION- Monday evening's icy road conditions are to blame for two rollover crashes, one of which involved a volunteer fire fighter who was responding to the first car crash near Marion.

The accidents happened on U.S. Highway 2 West between mile marker 96 and mile marker 98 on Monday night.

There has been road construction on the highway between the mile markers and road crews were watering down the area to keep down the dust.

Authorities say additional rain and cold temperatures later Monday causes the area to freeze, creating slick conditions.

An elderly male rolled his vehicle and was treated for head injuries while a Marion volunteer fire fighter responding to the rollover in his personal vehicle also crashed.

Both men were transported by ambulance for medical treatment and the Montana Department of Transportation was called out to the area to take care of the slick road.

The Marion Fire Department, West Flathead EMS, Montana Highway Patrol and the Flathead County Sheriff's Department all responded to Monday's accidents.
