With Big Sky Conference expansion approaching in a few weeks, but now the conference could be adding yet another school. The University
of Idaho will make a decision on their athletic future tomorrow. The Idaho Statesman reports the board will decide to go independent in football, and seek a spot in the Big Sky for all other sports. In the past, the conference has not added anyone who would not play football in the Big
Sky. But Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton said today, Idaho would fit a pressing need.
"Even though they still have decisions to make in football, it gets us to 12 in the other sports," Fullerton said. "And the other sports is really where you need partner scheduling. The volleyball, women's basketball, men's basketball. So they would solve one of our issues immediately."
Fullerton feels Idaho will face many challenges while trying to stay in the FBS as an independent school, but he understands their need to try. Big Sky extended an official invitation to the Vandals two months ago. And the commissioner feels the conference presidents could approve Idaho's admission within 10 days.
